Do not buy “PU flooring” until the system role is clear.

Choose a PU coating when the finish must manage appearance, abrasion or UV exposure. Review a PU-cement screed when the floor itself must carry wet processing, heavier traffic and demanding cleaning or chemical conditions.

Why PU flooring quotes differ so much.

Publicly advertised Singapore resin-floor figures reviewed in August 2026 ranged from roughly $10 to over $150 per m²—because they describe different systems and scopes.

Applied thicknessA PU finish coat is a few tenths of a millimetre; a PU-cement screed is 1.5–9 mm of trowel-applied material. The dominant variable, and the one most often left out of an advertised rate.
Supply-only or installedMaterial supply and a complete installed system are different scopes. Confirm whether labour, supervision, testing and reopening are included.
Preparation and repairsGrinding, crack repair and removing a failed floor are often excluded from headline rates. They must be identified before two quotations can be compared fairly.
Area and accessFixed mobilisation makes small areas far dearer per m²; overnight or phased work around a live operation costs more than a clear handover.

What is the difference between PU floor coating and PU-cement screed?

A PU coating is a thin finish layer selected for properties such as colour retention, abrasion resistance and, for suitable aliphatic grades, UV exposure. PU-cement combines polyurethane resin, cement and fillers into a heavier-duty screed. They are different materials with different system roles.

When should a Singapore facility consider PU-cement flooring?

PU-cement is commonly considered where prepared concrete faces repeated wet processing, chemical exposure, heavier traffic or demanding cleaning conditions. The actual product, thickness and detailing still need to be checked against the published TDS and the project exposure.

Can a polyurethane topcoat be used over an epoxy floor system?

A compatible polyurethane finish can form the wearing layer over a prepared epoxy build-up. Compatibility, intercoat preparation and recoat timing must follow the selected products’ technical data sheets.

Which PU flooring is suitable for sunlight and exposed decks?

An aliphatic polyurethane finish is the usual starting point where colour and appearance are exposed to UV. Drainage, waterproofing requirements, traffic, texture and the substrate condition still determine the full system.

Is water-based PU flooring suitable for occupied buildings?

Water-based PU finishes can support lower-odour work in selected occupied-building programmes. Ventilation, isolation, substrate preparation and the published application conditions remain part of the plan.

How much does PU flooring cost in Singapore?

Published Singapore rates for resin flooring range from under $10 to over $150 per square metre, so no single figure is a useful answer. The number is driven mainly by applied thickness — a thin PU finish coat versus a 1.5–9 mm PU-cement screed — and by what the price includes: supply-only or installed, and whether preparation, repairs and removal of an existing floor are inside it. A meaningful quotation needs surface photos and project conditions rather than area alone.

What does "PU flooring" actually mean?

PU stands for polyurethane. In Singapore the term covers two different things: thin polyurethane finish coatings used as the wearing or UV-stable layer of a coating system, and polyurethane-cement (PU-cement) screeds — heavier trowel-applied floors for wet processing and industrial duty. Confirm which material class a quote refers to before comparing prices.

What is the difference between PU flooring and epoxy flooring?

Epoxy is usually the structural body of a resin floor — economical build, hardness and adhesion. Polyurethane is usually the finish — UV-stable colour, flexibility and abrasion resistance. Many Singapore floors use both: an epoxy build coat under a PU topcoat. PU-cement screeds are a third, heavier class for hot wash-down and chemical duty.

Is PU flooring suitable for homes and car porches?

Selected PU systems suit landed-home duties: an aliphatic PU finish keeps its colour under direct sun on porches and decks, and water-based PU routes support lower-odour indoor work. The build beneath the finish still depends on the substrate and exposure, so share photos and the intended use for a practical recommendation.

Can PU flooring be installed over an existing coating?

Only after the existing coating has been assessed for adhesion, compatibility and condition. Unsound or contaminated layers may need removal; a sound compatible coating may still require mechanical preparation before recoating.

How soon can a PU floor return to service?

Return-to-service time depends on the selected product system, temperature, ventilation, thickness and intended traffic or chemical duty. Programme against the relevant TDS rather than a generic PU flooring claim.
