From substrate to service

A controlled route to applying Rayson SealForce AP05.

This sequence supports early planning. It does not replace the current Technical Data Sheet, approved method statement or project-specific technical review.

  1. 01

    Inspect and prepare the substrate

Concrete and cementitious surfaces: sound, with a pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm², at least 28 days old and mechanically prepared to an open texture

  2. 02

    Prepare the material as specified

One part, ready to use — stir for about 2 minutes with a slow paddle until uniform, without whipping in air

  3. 03

    Apply with the correct tools

Recommended methods: Brush, Roller. Confirm coat count and thickness for the project.

  4. 04

    Protect through the required cure

Dry when the milky white has turned clear — at least 1 hour, longer in cool or humid weather. Apply SealForce AC10 within 24 hours, cleaning the surface first if longer. Protect from rain until dry

01

Choose it when

  • Primer for absorbent concrete, render, brick, stone and tiles before SealForce AC10
  • Bonding primer on smooth, dense concrete finishes
  • Binding surface dust and firming weak surface layers before the membrane
  • Sealing pores in rough concrete so the membrane cures without bubbles or pinholes

Relevant applications

02

Choose something else when

  • A primer, not a waterproofing layer: always cover it with SealForce AC10
  • Apply between +10 °C and +35 °C, at no more than 75% relative humidity, with the substrate at least 3 °C above the dew point
  • Substrate moisture at most 5% by weight; no standing water and no rising moisture
  • Protect from rain until dry
  • Not for use under the polyurea membranes — SealForce RC40, RC30, SP200 and SP210 take the primer named in their own data sheets
  • Metal needs an anti-corrosion primer instead; on glazed tiles, sound old coatings or other dense surfaces, confirm adhesion with a trial area first
  • Floors under water-based urethane finishes — use Rayson PrimeBond W10
  • Under the polyurea membranes SealForce RC40, RC30, SP200 and SP210
  • Under SealForce WB20 in toilets and bathrooms, which needs no primer
  • Use on its own as a sealer or finish — it must be covered by SealForce AC10

Substrate requirements
  • Concrete and cementitious surfaces: sound, with a pull-off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm², at least 28 days old and mechanically prepared to an open texture
  • Brick and stone with sound, flush-pointed mortar joints; loose units replaced
  • Unglazed ceramic tiles and clay roof tiles, securely fixed, with broken or missing tiles replaced
  • All surfaces power-washed or vacuumed free of dust, and dry: moisture at most 5% by weight, with no standing water or rising moisture

Common technical questions

What to know before specifying Rayson SealForce AP05.

What is SealForce AP05 used for?

It prepares concrete, render, brick, stone and roof tiles for SealForce AC10, the acrylic roof and wall membrane: a bonding primer on smooth concrete, a pore sealer on rough concrete, and a dust binder on weathered masonry and tiles. It is brushed or rolled on, dries clear and is always covered by the membrane.

Which Rayson waterproofing membranes need it?

SealForce AC10, on concrete, render, brick, stone and tiles. SealForce WB20 does not: it goes straight onto the prepared screed or concrete of a toilet or bathroom. The polyurea membranes, SealForce RC40, RC30, SP200 and SP210, each take the primer named in their own data sheets, not AP05. Metal under AC10 takes an anti-corrosion metal primer.

How much do I need?

About 0.15 to 0.3 kg/m² per coat, depending on how absorbent the surface is; a 20 kg pail primes about 65 to 130 m² per coat. Very porous concrete, brick or tiles take a second coat, and a small test area shows the real figure for each surface.

How long before the membrane goes on?

Until the milky white has turned completely clear: at least 1 hour, longer in cool or humid weather. Apply SealForce AC10 within 24 hours of priming, and clean the surface first if it has waited longer. Protect the primer from rain until it is dry.

Can it go on old roof tiles, brick or stone?

Yes, once the surface is sound: loose tiles or bricks fixed, broken ones replaced, open joints pointed, and the surface power-washed and dried. It suits unglazed ceramic and clay tiles; on glazed tiles or other dense surfaces, a trial area confirms adhesion first.

SealForce AP05 or PrimeBond W10: what is the difference?

Both are one-part, water-based acrylic primers, for different systems. AP05 is the SealForce waterproofing primer for roofs and external walls under SealForce AC10. PrimeBond W10 is the floor primer under Rayson's low-odour water-based urethane finishes, such as UraForce WB52.

Can it be left on its own as a sealer?

No. It binds dust and seals pores ahead of the membrane, but it is not a waterproofing layer or a wearing surface. It must be covered by SealForce AC10.

Is SealForce AP05 available to order now?

SealForce AP05 is part of Rayson's upcoming waterproofing release, alongside SealForce AC10. Send the project details and your required date, and Rayson will confirm supply timing, quantities and, where you need one, an applicator in the Rayson network before you commit.
