Google asks “how much does a 20 kg kit of epoxy flooring cost?” under almost every epoxy search in Singapore, and the honest answer starts with a different question: how far does the kit go? That depends on what is in it. The same 20 kg covers a six-fold range of area across Rayson’s floor systems, and until the system and the thickness are fixed, neither the area nor the cost means anything. This page does the arithmetic, system by system, from the published consumption on each technical data sheet.

The arithmetic

Coverage in m² = kit weight in kg ÷ consumption in kg/m². Consumption is on the data sheet; the kit weight is on the pail. Everything else is an adjustment for the real floor.

Read the last column against what a quotation allows. A contractor quoting one 20 kg set of self-levelling epoxy for a 30 m² floor is either applying it at a third of the data-sheet thickness or has not read the data sheet.

Why the real figure is lower

The data-sheet figure is theoretical: a smooth, non-porous surface, at exactly the stated thickness, with nothing lost. Real floors move the number in one direction.

  • Porosity. A rough, absorbent or shot-blasted slab drinks the first coat. This is the primer’s job — and why the primer is a separate product with its own consumption, not a share of the 20 kg.
  • Thickness. A self-levelling floor poured to reach level on an uneven slab takes more where the slab is low. A screed specified at 3 mm takes exactly 1.5 times the material of one at 2 mm.
  • Texture. A broadcast of quartz into a roller coat, or a quartz-textured anti-slip finish, takes more sealing coat than a smooth floor.
  • Wastage. Tray, roller and mixing losses; cut-ins at walls, columns and drains; the part of a set that does not get used within its pot life.

An allowance of 10–30% on top of the theoretical figure is normal. Very rough or very absorbent concrete pushes it higher, and the assessment is where that is decided. The coverage calculator applies the published consumption to your area and lets you set the allowance.

Why the kit does not answer “how much will the floor cost?”

Material is usually the smaller part of an installed epoxy floor. Preparation — grinding or shot blasting, repairs, moisture treatment — plus the primer, the labour, the detailing at joints, coves and drains, and the reopening programme are the larger part, and they are what separates two quotations for the same floor. Rayson does not publish material prices online and does not install; the applicator’s quotation sets the installed figure. A worked example

A 120 m² workshop floor, sound concrete, light forklift traffic, to be finished with a two-coat roller epoxy.

  1. Primer — PrimeBond E20 at its data-sheet consumption for the slab’s porosity; one separate set or more.
  2. FloorGuard R50 — 120 m² × 0.4 kg/m² per coat × 2 coats = 96 kg theoretical.
  3. Allowance — +15% for a ground slab and cut-ins = ≈110 kg.
  4. Sets — 110 ÷ 20 = 5.5 → six 20 kg sets, because a set is mixed 4:1 by weight and a part-set left over is not a saving.

A quotation for that floor should show six sets — or a consumption figure that reconciles to it — plus the primer, plus the preparation. If it shows three, the floor is being quoted at one coat, or at half thickness, and it will look like it in a year.
